Our Story

In the 1920’s, Makitaro Tamura opened his first store (Tamura Shoten) on the main street of Waianae. Makitaro eventually turned the store over to one of his sons, Katsuichi Tamura. Katsuichi changed the name of the store to K. Tamura Store which is currently known as Tamura Super Market.

Herbert Tamura (Katsuichi’s son) and his son Glenn Tamura, decided to venture out from the original family company (Tamura Super Market) and start their own establishment. In 1995, Tamura Enterprises, Inc. was formed, operating a grocery store and liquor division. Today, Tamura Enterprises, Inc. has grown to include three Grocery Stores, four Fine Wine & Liquors Stores, and one takeout Kitchen with locations on Oahu and Maui.

As the company continues to grow, the Tamura’s vision is still very much true to Makitaro Tamura’s promise made four generations ago. We are firmly committed to providing our loyal customers everyday low pricing and the highest quality. For 18 consecutive years, Tamura’s Fine Wine and Liquors has been voted as Honolulu Star Advertiser’s Hawaii’s Best and Hawaii’s Magazine Readers Choice Awards Best Wine Shop.
